At Applied Somatics we simplify the approach of Somatic Education by educating practitioners to understand and know about acute pain and pain management first. By teaching you about those individuals in society with the most needs, and considerations for gentle care you learn to see Clinical Somatics more wholistically-not just for the Myth of Aging. By teaching to the lowest common denominator we safely address those in acute and chronic pain.
At Applied Somatics we simplify the approach of Somatic Education by educating practitioners with the skills to help others manage acute pain and pain management first. The valuable information in the Myth of Aging, as presented by Thomas Hanna, is not accessible to all individuals in pain, aged individuals or those who have histories of surgeries, motor vehicle accidents and injuries that limit mobility and are complicated with areas of Sensory Motor Amnesia.
By teaching you about those individuals in society with the most needs, and considerations for gentle care you learn to see Clinical Somatics more wholistically and be able to apply the education and clinical skills to a wider base of the population that you work with. In teaching to the lowest common denominator we address safely helping those in acute and chronic pain. You will learn a more expansive view and a broader skill set, enabling you to educate and provide clinic Somatics and homecare that is safer and suitable for individuals of all capabilities.
The Clinical Somatic training is offered in five weekend modules. Those wishing to take the courses should have a strong background in anatomy and physiology. Training is accredited with the CMT of BC for Continuing Education Credits and is often attended by Registered Massage Therapist, Physiotherapists and Kinesiologists. Individuals with other backgrounds can apply to determine which stage of our training is appropriate. Our Level I courses (3 modules) can be taken in any order and would be followed by Level II and Level III.
In our Somatic Yoga series we blend the work of Thomas Hanna (founder of Somatics and author of ‘Somatics’) and Eleanor Criswell (director of Novato Institute for Somatic Research & Training, author of ‘Somatic Yoga’). This three part series helps Yoga teachers and movement educators incorporate gentle Somatics into their classes. With our experience and knowledge we educate practitioners to safely teach all individuals and how to blend Somatics and Yoga. We will help you to excel at teaching to the lowest common denominator so your students can maintain or progress safely to live fuller lives. After the Somatic Yoga level II(Soma Flow Yoga), practitioners can apply to enter the Clinical Somatics Training series.
